It’s been around in the UK since the 1950s, but community heating - or district heating as it’s also known - is [enjoying a renaissance](http://www.theguardian.com/cities/2014/nov/18/district-heating-a-hot-idea-whose-time-has-come). The Government has identified heat networks as a way to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy security, and a nation struggling against fuel poverty is more receptive to decentralised heat sources as a means to warm their homes.
