What I got up to during my week
Sitting in on customer calls quickly became a highlight for me, as I observed how the team handle different customers, prioritising active-listening and problem solving. Shortly after, I had a laptop of my own and tasks to work on, including creating a leaflet for a current project for customers. Designing the leaflet provided me with the independence to apply the skills I’d seen, and an opportunity to think about how content resonates with the audience. This shift from observing to contributing gave me new independence and a real insight into the working environment.
By the end of my placement, I had plenty to show for just a week’s experience. I came away with certifications from courses, which equipped me with both a stronger foundation in digital marketing tools, and content for my CV. Not only that, but I was able to create graphics in which I could apply my new knowledge; creating real pieces of content boosted my self-belief as I was able to clearly measure what I’d learned against the product I created.
Overall, this work experience gave me a real insight into how marketing works and the variety of skills it involves. From producing content to learning new software, I came away with both certifications and practical experiences that I can build on in the future. Beyond this, I gained valuable experience working in a professional office environment – from understanding team dynamics to how tasks are coordinated day-to-day.
